Pet Portrait by Carin Steen

These are my Guatemala girls!!! I miss them so much and can't wait to see them in October!
I made this triple portrait for myself, to hang on my own wall, with elements and colours I happen to like. And rather than using gouache or acrylics, I started playing around with markers, for the first time since I was a kid! Now I must say, markers are a whole different ballpark these days. Lovely colours, nice blending option, super fine points or delicious brush strokes... But it wasn't easy at all. For starters, there is no white, so you have to use the white of the background. Which I remembered too late. So I cheated an used a bit of white paint. I'm not convinced this is going to be my new favourite technique, but it was fun doing something else for a change. My collection of favourite doggos on my wall is growing!
